Examination techniques (including revision)

  • Planning & preparing - how to plan and prepare for revision.
  • Revision - how to revise, when and where. When to stop.
  • Exam tactics - reading and adhering to the examinations rules, reading and understanding the question, identifying the topic, moving on if you get stuck, returning to a question.
  • Showing working - giving the examiner every opportunity to give you marks, showing working, showing units
  • Checking answers for accuracy and realism - many examination questions relate to real situations, is your answer realistic? Checking answers for accuracy, correct number of decimal places or significant figures.
  • Best use of time - how to monitor your progress through the questions, what to do if you finish early, checking back.
  • Curing those exam butterflies - use that energy to your benefit!
  • Practice Papers - we have past exam papers available on which to practice the above
  • Group revision sessions - as from April 2010, we now offer group revision sessions in the Holsworthy Skills Centre. Whilst aimed at students taking the GCSE Maths (Higher level) paper, we can also run them for students taking the GCSE Maths (Foundation level) paper, or indeed, and other subject or level within our operating profile.
